Help a poor mother for getting her daughter married

Marriage of a female child is a matter of huge concern in our society. It is the biggest responsibility of a parent. Sadly, our society does not lay such similar pressures when it comes to the marriage of a son. This is the bitter truth because of which people consider daughters as a burden to their families instead of a blessing. Every parent leaves no stone unturned to make the marriage day perfect. It requires a huge amount of money, along with critical planning and various what-ifs. As a parent, people happily spend their whole lives’ savings for this grand event without thinking twice. In a happy household, it may not be as stressful but for families that have very limited incomes, this becomes the only goal that they earn throughout their lives.

We often see that a couple starts saving money for the marriage of their daughters since the time she is born. Even people belonging to the middle-class families face huge pressure in this matter. No parent would ever want that their daughter gets to hear taunts from their in-laws just because they were unable to collect enough funds at the time of marriage. So they tend to gather money by hook or by crook in order to secure the happiness of their daughters.

But for some people, it is even more difficult. Take house-help maids for an example. They barely earn enough income to last for the whole month, let alone saving some for the marriage of their daughter/s. As the poverty rate in India increases day by day, there is also a decline in employment ratios. This may also mean that the husbands of these maids don’t bring back enough funds to support the family. As is commonly seen, most poverty-stricken men are drug addicts that spend a fortune on alcohol daily instead of saving up that money for the future. In such a situation, the burden falls upon women of the household to take responsibility for their children’s’ education and marriage. But even after working in various small jobs, most women aren’t able to save enough that they can afford to marry off their daughters in a respectable manner.

Why should I help when no one else is bothered?

That is the most common and unreasonable question of the decade. Just because other people don’t help to make this world a better place to live in, you decline to do the same. What difference is then between you and the crowd? Here are a few reasons you should consider this good cause:

  1. Being sensitive to the people around you: In this constant race towards success and fame, we often overlook the sorrows and problems of people who work around or even for us. We simply consider that our problems are the biggest hurdles anyone can face and fail to recognize how there are many severe difficulties other people around us may be going through.
  2. Act of humanity: In this era, we constantly try to impress others of the same pedestal in life, people who are either above us or of the same class. To maintain our social status, we follow the wrong path of pretentious living to achieve happiness.  We have forgotten how immensely happy can a simple act of kindness can bring us.
  3. Inspire those around you: If you hold an important and prestigious position in society, your acts should be inspiring. Use your position to influence people of your kind. Those who truly respect you will follow your examples.
  4. Positive use of social media: Most people use social media to create videos of helping poor people or doing charity, but they are criticized very much. At least, they are doing something for goodwill even if to gain some fame as opposed to those who just sit there and comment on their posts. A good deed is a good deed irrespective of you doing it privately or openly. It is time we started using social media in a positive way.

How can I help?

When you get your mind to it, there are a number of ways you can help out others around you. Even if you do not earn a lot, just having the will and spirit to help a person will get you through. Here are a few ways in which you can help a poor mother getting her daughter married:

  1. Donations: There are a lot of organizations that accept donations for marriage. It is a simple method by which you can extend your help and play a very significant role in changing a persons’ life. If you don’t have enough time to visit a donation center, you can always donate online and help this cause.
  2. Sponsorship: If you have enough to thank the Almighty for, try reverting the thanks in a way that is truly beneficial for another human. You can sponsor a child, taking up the responsibilities of their education and marriage if her parents are unable to provide for the same.
  3. Collective efforts: There are numerous NGOs that help this cause. Your contribution to an NGO’s help for marriage will go a long way in helping poor mothers provide a happy life to their daughters. You can also ask people from your contacts to come forward and do the same.
  4. Organize charitable events: If you are a renowned person living a luxurious life who loves parties and social gatherings, you can hold social events with various volunteers in India dedicated to the same cause. You can collect funds for helping these poor mothers.
  5. Use your money well: We lavishly spend our money on gaining temporary happiness have a way actually to achieve and feel true and pure happiness. Instead of the amount of money that you’d rather spend on ordering stuff from online that you really do not need, try to collect it and hand them over to someone you know can put the money in better use. It will give you a sense of happiness that even a thousand unnecessary purchases won’t.

It becomes the responsibility and an act of goodwill that we, the more privileged people of the society, join hands to help those in need. It is the spirit of selfless goodwill that will actually provide us true happiness that our generation seeks everywhere. Maybe if the world is full of helping people like you, someday daughters won’t be considered as a burden to her parents.
