Ujjain

The ancient city of Ujjain is situated on the eastern bank of the Shipra River in the Malwa region. The city is home to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. There are also other famous temples in the city including Kal Bhairava Temple, Harsiddhi Temple, Ram Mandir Ghat, Chintaman Ganesh Temple, and many other religious sites. Maihar

The Sharada Mata Temple at Maihar is believed to be a Shakti Peeth. According to Hindu mythology, the necklace of Goddess Sati had fallen at Maihar on top of the Trikuta Hill. The temple, built on that exact spot, requires a steep climb of almost 1000 steps to reach the temple. Damodar Ropeways & Infra Limited [DRIL], one of the oldest ropeway construction companies in India, operate an aerial ropeway route at the Sharada Mata temple to help the physically disabled and elderly devotees. By taking this cable car ride, devotees can reach the main gate of the temple complex within a few minutes. Due to a lack of space to build the upper station, the design team of DRIL came up with an innovative layout where the tension tower which provides the counter weight is built on a very steep slope.

Orchha

An offbeat destination located on the banks of the Betwa River, Orchha is a quiet town with an old world charm. The town is known for its well preserved royal palaces, mighty forts, and ancient temples. Orchha was once the capital of the Bundela Dynasty, one of the most powerful dynasties to ever rule in India. The medieval architecture of the palaces and temples tell the story of this city’s rich cultural heritage. The beautiful architecture is a treat for photography lovers. Sanchi

Sanchi is a small town, located close to the city of Bhopal. Famous as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Sanchi is most known for the Great Stupa, built by Emperor Ashoka in 262 BC. The Buddhist relics found at Sanchi are some of the oldest stone structures in India. The town is home to many ancient Stupas, monasteries, and an archeological museum displaying relics of Buddhist art and architecture. Khajuraho

One more UNESCO World Heritage site, the Khajuraho Temples are famous all over the world for its erotic carvings. Bandhavgarh National Park

Historically a hunting ground of the Maharaja of Rewa, the Bandhavgarh National Park is known to have the highest density of Royal Bengal Tigers in the world. This wildlife reserve is spread over an area of 1,536 square kilometers. The national park features dense green valleys and a rocky hill terrain, with an ancient fort which is now in ruins. Bandhavgarh is said to be the best place in India for tiger sighting. The Park is a popular destination among the wildlife enthusiasts. In addition to tigers, the park is home to Asiatic jackals, foxes, leopards, sloth bears, deer, wild boars, Nilgai and much more. There is a jeep safari available for the tourists.
