Workplace skills that can be developed through the use of social media
Vocational skills refer to the skills that are practical based that you are likely to pick up in the workplace as experience , rather than theoretical skills that can be studied in a classroom. I already have a wide range of vocational skills that would benefit me in the workplace , some of which include first aid qualifications and driving licence , these vocational skills can be transferred into the workplace. A vocational skill that i have picked up when studying in college is presentation skills , this has helped be to build more confidence and made me feel more comfortable when speaking in front of large groups of people , this skills will help me out when I’m pursuing my career in sales management.
I have indented the vocation skills that i would need to pursue a career in sales , like i said before , presentation skills are key , and to have good communication skills when dealing with clients ; these are skills that can be developed in college. Communication skills would be used in sales as it would be required when dealing with/selling to clients , as good confidence and communication shows that you have an understanding of the service that you are selling , which increases buyer confidence to sign contracts or buy the products etc.
Over the course at college i have been able to achieve some of the vocational skills that I would require in sales management , one example of this is in my presentations , at first I wasn’t very confident at speaking in front of groups of people , but now I can do it easily , this is a transferable skill that i can be used in the workplace and give me confidence to speak about my ideas. I will be able to further develop and achieve more of the skills required during my education as i will go to university where I will gain a more in depth understanding of sales management and acquire the qualifications that are necessary to pursue this career. These vocational skills can also be represented through buildings a brand on social media, for example a vocational skills could be speaking skills, this can then be used to develop this into a personal brand such as Instagram to create business/indurrty related social media content. Practical skills refer to the ability to use hand or human intervention using equipment or tools. Currently on my course , as its business orientated my practical skills are less of those studying a vocation course such as joinery. However I have still been able to develop some of my practical skills over the course of my education not just in college , these skills include the ability to use things such as IT equipment or other resources that I require to get my work done. A job in my chosen career (sales) would require me to be able to be well spoken and be able to have a good understanding of language , i would also need good IT skills for when I’m writing reports and filling out information , these skills will help me to become successful. These are the skills that the employers will look for to see if you are a good candidate for the job. My skills include communication , teamwork , problem solving , initiative , planning and organising , self management , learning and technology. There are many key employment skills that i will need to be successful in my career in sales , the ones that i will choose to talk about are self management, teamwork and communication as i feel they are the most relevant. The next employment skill is teamwork , i feel that teamwork is a huge factor for success in most careers , but with sales management i may be required to work alongside others to get things done , as this is a professional environment , i will be required to act professionally and composed , i will be able to develop my teamwork skills through participating in team activities more often , there are extra curricular activities that i can attend to boost my confidence and team working abilities such as football/sports teams and NCS program for students. Lastly communication is a key attribute to success in a sales career as i will need them when communicating across to clients , it can mean the difference between contracts being signed and losing out on one.
Communication skills can be achieved through practice in day to day life , however in a more professional context , they will be needed to be developed in a professional environment , this will mean for me to develop my communication skills I will need to take part in more work experiences in professional environments such as offices. Good employment skills can also be used on social media, for example on linked in pages, this can also be used to network and find a new job and build new contacts that could help in existing roles too.
