The curing process of these types of materials is irreversible. Moreover, thermoset plastics get decomposed when heated and don’t reform after cooling. In this process, three-dimensional parts are created from the CAD models by forming the material layer by layer until the shape is completely built. It only requires minimal set-up with no additional tool; therefore, the cost of this manufacturing process is quite low.
In this method, a reactive liquid resin if filled in a mould forms a chemical reaction and gets solidified. Generally, epoxy, silicone, polyurethane, etc. are used for this process. While it is an inexpensive way to manufacture plastic, it can produce a limited number of casting.
CNC machining comprises of lathes, mills, and many other subtractive processes that are controlled by computer. In this method, the materials are shaped by cutting, drilling, grinding, boring etc. this process is ideal for applications that need tight tolerances and intricate geometrics.
Rational moulding, also known as rotomoulding includes heating a mould that is filled with powdered thermoplastic and rotating it for two axes to generating mostly hollow items. Considering that no pressure is needed to fill the mould, it is a secure and expensive form of manufacturing.
