5 TIPS TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS

 

With summer known for its characteristic heat, there is the need to ensure that you know the best ways to cater to your hair to ensure that it remains healthy. Taking into consideration that summer heat can damage your locks, cause oily scalps and even turn the hair green when in contact with chlorine, below are some tips to help you better manage your hair.

1. Reduce the heat

Heat has a wide range of detrimental effect on the hair and as such it is recommended that you reduce the heat. This can be achieved by either applying deep conditioner containing SPF protection or choosing to wear a protective covering such as a hat on your head. It is also recommended that you avoid all forms of heat applicators as these may damage the vigor and thickness of your hair. During the summer months, heat styling should be avoided as much as possible also.

2. Limit the chlorine damage

Chlorine does not agree well with most hairs during summer months and this is why you hear stories of swimmers getting green hairs after too much exposure to chlorine. The key to avoiding green hair however is to stay out of chlorinated water or if you must prep your hair before taking the much desired swim. To ensure that your hair remains protected, you may choose to first rinse out your hair with tap water before the swim in order to ensure that it will absorb less chlorine. After your swim, it is also recommended that you rinse out your hair with some apple cider vinegar and water as this will significantly reduce the amount of chlorine damage to your hair.

4. Wash Less

Another important advice to adopt during the summer months to ensure that your hair remains beautiful and shiny is to avoid washing it as frequently as you did before. Frequent washing of the hair can lead to reduction in the essential and natural oils which are needed for its healthy growth. Taking into consideration the hazardous effect of the heat and sun, it is more recommended that you limit the frequency of wash per week to about two times. Also when washing the hair, a great tip is to mix 2-3 tablespoon of coconut water and lemon juice and apply the mixture to your scalp for about 5 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

5. Drink more water

Water plays important roles in the body and to ensure that your hair remains healthy, ensure to stay hydrated at all times by taking more water to maintain internal balance and keep your hair protected.
